“He smiles, and he’s made of trouble.”

Title: Carry On
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Why you should read this book: magic, young love, vampires, ghosts, mysteries to solve!

If you haven’t read the book “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell don’t read the summary nor the review because it may contain spoilers.

Simon Snow is preparing himself for his last year at the Watford School of Magicks and he is hoping it can be better than all the previous years. Unfortunately as soon as he arrives there are only bad news waiting for him: his mentor, The Mage, wants to send him away to protect him, and his girlfriend Agatha broke up with him because she fell in love with his nemesis and roommate, Baz. And guess what? Baz didn’t even show for the beginning of school and that is driving Simon crazy!
The Mages world is threatened by the Humdrum, an evil entity that swallows magic wherever he shows, and it seems that it follows Simon ruining all his hopes for a relaxing and quiet last year of school.

Loved it, loved it, really loved it!! I was already in love with the characters from Cath’s fanfics but now that I truly know them I love them a whole lot more. Simon, the terrible chosen one obsessed with his roommate, Baz, a charming and rich student with a secret. Penny, Simon’s best friend and powerful mage and Agatha…I don’t like her, from beginning to end I didn’t like her. Sorry!

I always love when stories are told from different POVs (like Eleanor & Park), every chapter seen from a different perspective so that the reader can see what’s really going on in the characters’ heads. I love the parts where the POVs were switching every few sentences. If you’ve read the book you’ll know exactly what glorious part I’m referring to. I still have goose bumps. Sometimes I think my heart will not get excited over teenager’s feelings because I’m, let’s say, an older lady, but then these painful feelings of love start inside my heart and explode like a supernova!

“For a moment — not even a moment, a split second — I imagine him saying, ‘The truth is, I’m desperately attracted to you.’ And then I imagine myself spitting in his face. and then I imagine licking it off his cheek and kissing him. (Because I’m disturbed. Ask Anyone.)”

Simon & Baz are fictional characters of a fictional book inside Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Cath, the main character of the book, writes fan fictions about them being in love. Knowing these premises we know that Simon & Baz are going to be together, in love, a mage and a mage/vampire. Roommates at first then something more. We don’t know exactly how this is going to happen because in Fangirl we are only shown a few chapters of the fanfic but we know that love is just behind the corner for these two guys who think they hate each other. Yeah, sure, hate!

How cute are they?

The plot of Carry On is not focused on romance, is focused on two different situations: the battle of the mages world against the insidious humdrum and finding the truth behind a very important event that happened a long time ago in Watford. Simon will have his best friend Penelope, Penny, to help him and Baz. Will they be able to collaborate without fighting all the time? Will Simon understand what is that feeling he’s had in him for a very long time?

My otp is adorable beyond compare! I was grinning from ear to ear all the time! I read about them fighting and all I could think about was “Just kiss each other”!

The only think I didn’t 100% love was the ending. I found it a little hasty. I know the book was already long enough but I thought there were a couple of things that needed more explanation. A part from that everything was perfect! I think I will think about this story for a very long time.

Do I recommend it? Yes, Simon & Baz will steal your heart.
