“Remember when you tried to convince me to feed a poultry pie to the mallards in the park to see if you could breed a race of cannibal ducks?”
“They ate it too,” Will reminisced. “Bloodthirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”

Title: Clockwork Angel
Author: Cassandra Clare
Why you should read this book: Prequel of the Mortal Instruments books, this trilogy is a must read if you love the Shadowhunters world!

Summary taken directly from Goodreads because I really didn’t know how to explain it better:
The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them.

“Look at him. The face of a bad angel and eyes like the night sky in Hell. He’s very pretty, and vampires like that. I can’t say I mind either.”

Took me ages but I did it, I finished reading it and it was totally worth it. Now I really understand why this book has such a high rating. The story, the ambience, the twists, the magic, the pretty boys….aww yeah, the pretty duo, Will and Jem, black and white, bitchy and sweet!

Tessa, our damsel in distress, is young and naive, it’s her first time in London, away from her home in New York City. She has been invited by her brother Nate. Well, it didn’t turn out the way she expected.
Kidnappings, monsters, vampires, mechanical enemies and this whole new world with Shadowhunters in it. Of course she fancies Will, come on, it’s so easy to fall for him, so damned handsome with his hair, his smile, his eyes, his I-don’t-care-about-you attitude!

“It’s okay to love someone who doesn’t love you back, as long as they’re worth loving.”

At first of course I was falling for Will and maybe I still have a crush on him. Dark messy hair, blue eyes, that dangerous look girls fall for. Then I got to meet Jem, a truly little gem (pun intended XD). He is so sweet, I think he is hiding some feelings but he doesn’t allow that to keep him from being polite with their guests! Yes, Will, I’m looking at you!

“Will looked horrified. “What kind of monster could possibly hate chocolate?”

Side characters were also very nice to know. Every inhabitant of the Institute have their part in the story and without them it would be empty. I just didn’t know how to picture them, I keep changing my mind. Then when I found out Charlotte and Henry’s real age I started laughing to hard. So young…why does everyone has to be so young? I felt old and useless. Charlotte runs the Institute and I haven’t run since 2005!

“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

The mysteries!! Magnus Bane!! I loved it all. The twist caught me off guard, I thought my theories were quite right but no, I really didn’t see that coming.

The ending! What kind of ending was that???? Come on, I want to know! Can’t wait to read more about all of them!

Do I recommend it? Yes, you will fall in love with the characters.
