“Was this what dating was? Was this how other people did it? How did they stand it? The waiting, the not knowing where you stood with someone.”

Title: The Party Boy’s Guide to Dating a Geek
Author: Piper Vaughn & Xara X. Xanakas
Why you should read this book: Because it’s sexy, adorable, sweet and really funny.

Summary from Goodreads:

Ashley Byrne only wants one thing in life: to finish his tattoo apprenticeship and fulfill his dream of owning his own shop. In the meantime, he spends his nights partying, flirting, and having sex. After all, what else is there for him to worry about? Aside from his hair and his clothes, not much. He’s hot, and rest assured no one knows it better than him. He’s also used to getting what he wants—until he meets Felipe Navarro.

Fee Navarro has everything he needs: a great IT job, a nice apartment, and all the high-tech toys his geeky heart could ever want. He doesn’t do casual, and he knows guys like Ash are nothing but. Ash may burn hot for Fee, but Fee isn’t willing to take a chance on a vain, little party boy with too many tats and an oversized ego. He wants someone to share his life with, and he won’t settle for anything less. Too bad Ash has never been the type to give up easily. He has a plan, and he’s not stopping until he proves he’s more than just a pretty face—he’s someone worthy of winning Fee’s heart.

“Ash had had the feeling Fee was going to stay his heart. Now, he was sure of it.”

Adorable and sexy, what a great combination!!
I read it in just one day, it is becoming a habit with this wonderful happy books about love. I love love. I laughed, I actually wanted to cry at Ash’s frustration and tears. Crying because your heart is hurting because of love hits me hard. It’s a cry I can’t bear, it crushes me!!

Ash, beautiful tattoo artist, the party guy who is always out at the club scoring guys. Never serious about love, had his heart broken and made it close business. The suffering was not worth it, not for him. Ash is a sweet guy with a terrible reputation that he starts seeing after he met Fee, became obsessed with him, and everyone seems to point out how he is not supposed to be at home thinking about a guy while he is usually partying in clubs, dancing and drinking, and sleeping around. He is not a guy who can be driven crazy by someone quite different from him.

Then along came Fee, Felipe Navarro, geek from the tip of his dark curls to his, apparently, sexy feet. He doesn’t trust Ash because of his reputation but, after Ash met him and did everything in his stalkerish power to win him, maybe he is meant to give the poor guy a chance, am I right? Fee is described as tall, dark skinned because he is Mexican, curly hair, fit body and beautiful brown eyes. I mean, he is dreamy and there’s no way a guy like Ash can keep his eyes away from him, right? No one can keep their eyes away from him. He is hot as hell! So is Ash, a match made in heaven of two hellishly good-looking boys.

“Why is everyone so shocked to hear me say I’m reading? It is a skill I picked up somewhere around first grade, you know.”

Fee declines Ash when he asks him out for a drink so Ash thinks of it as a challenge and wants him to say yes. Little he knows he is going to fall slowly for this geek man. He also buys the infamous guide that gives the title to this book and that chapters of said guide were hilarious and so very true. I can relate to many of those things. I am not a party girl and I’m not really a geek but I’m more of a geek than a party gal so, yeah, a lot of parts looks really familiar.

“It wasn’t a date. He offered his expertise in an area where I needed it.”
“That’s a lot of words to say ‘date’.”

There were so many sweet moments that made my heart skip a beat. There were also sexy moments that made my heart beat twice as fast. There were also sad and frustrating moments that made me want to cry and punch someone.

“I could practically hear you ingesting from across the room.”

Sometimes you just need this kind of love story, something quite simple, a story between opposites that meet halfway because there is no point denying something good might be just around the corner. Don’t deny yourself happiness just because of rumors or prejudices, take a chance and see for yourself if it’s worth it. You never know!

I love Ash and Fee but I also loved the side characters. Ash’s friends and family, always there to support him. Fee’s bookclub and steampunk enthusiasts were really interesting. How much does it cost to dress steampunkish? I want a pocket watch and a monocle. A corset, too, I want to show my boobs; they deserve to be shown and steampunk style seems an appropriate way for them to be introduced properly to society.

I want to know more about one particular character, about why this character behaved but I may have a theory. I may be seeing things where there aren’t but if I’m right that explains a lot and it makes me sad. A broken heart takes a very long time to heal…if it ever heals.

If you need a light read, to laugh, to get you a little horny (why not?), to put you in a good mood, then read this book. It’s precious and I loved it!

(will there be a sequel or another book of this series? it’s been years since this was published so maybe it’s not going to happen. Sigh)

Do I recommend it? Of course, I am sure you will love it. Star Wars and The Princess Bride references, steampunk music and sexy costumes, tattoos, it has a little bit of everything.
