“You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.”
Title: Me Before You
Author: Jojo Moyes
Why you should read this book: Because it is sweet and not too sad, the right mix of emotions.
Summary from Goodreads:
Lou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.
What Lou doesn’t know is she’s about to lose her job or that knowing what’s coming is what keeps her sane.
Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he’s going to put a stop to that.
What Will doesn’t know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they’re going to change the other for all time.
“Push yourself. Don’t Settle. Just live well. Just LIVE.”
Very nice book that is really easy to read, so easy you don’t even notice you are reading it until you look at the clock and you realize you have to go to bed because you only have 5 hours to sleep before going to work. Believe me, getting up in the morning was a really hard task! I turned off the alarm clock three times then fell asleep again!
Starting the book I was convinced of two things: 1) that I was going to cry, and 2) that I’d give it 5 stards. None of those came true. Yeah, it was plenty sad and it’s about a hard reality I’ve come across a lot lately in magazines and blogs, but the ending was a bit rushed and it didn’t convey the right feelings that make me melt.
That doesn’t change the fact that I really liked the way the relationship between Will and Loue develops from work related to love. Two fantastic characters with all the flows two common people have: fear of the future, fear of not being themselves, fear of feeling trapped, of unrevealed secrets, personal and economic crisis. Everything is very contemporary and true and these people feel like they could be our neighbors or ourselves.
Of course, I don’t own a castle but if I had the money that will be they first thing I’m going to buy. Yes, a castle and a vacation. Mauritius sounds perfect!
Lou and I had very similar taste in stockings but my collection is lacking so much. I need to go out for some more stocking shopping when the weather is colder. I want the striped yellow and black stocking!
The story has a lot of characters. Too many? Maybe! I would’ve wanted to see more of Nathan but I think I’m biased because I liked him very much. Ok, a lot, I liked him a lot. There is someone, his name starts with Pat and ends with Rick, that I hated from beginning to end. Damned you, nascissistic selfish man!
“You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt.”
I saw the movie but it didn’t convince me very much. I don’t think it was wise going to see the movie only hours after finishing the book. I was too fresh from the reading that everything felt off and that annoyed me a lot. I should’ve read it when I bought it months ago but what can I do? I am a procrastinator.
Do I recommend it? Yes, remember the tissues, it’s probably you will need a few of them.
