I was afraid of reading this one seeing so many low ratings, but I actually enjoyed it better than I thought and it was pretty cute. The magic was pretty interesting and the characters flawed but still likeable.

We have a weird magic system, not very well explained and we have our characters trying new spells, getting into dangerous situations, and just simply navigating high school.

We have more than one POV but mostly the POV is from Sam, who has to deal with a love that may be not entirely one sided, a new cute guy entering the picture, a dangerous cult, a book of spells that can’t end in the hands of bad people, and choosing what to do after finishing school.

I really liked how easy it was to follow. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator had a really nice voice and if the voice is nice, then the book is even more enjoyable.

This may not be for everyone but I feel like I can recommend it to everyone who loves YA fantasy mixed with romance.
