“I lied to you about a lot of things….but I meant every apology.”

Title: Scarlet
Author: Marissa Meyer
Why you should read this book: If you loved Cinder then you are going to love this book!

If you haven’t read the first book of The Lunar Chronicles then don’t read the summary nor the review because it may contain spoilers.

After the events of the first book we move to France, to a little town where Scarlet and her grandmother lives. Lived, because grandmother Benoit has been kidnapped and nobody wants to help Scarlet find her. Until Wolf, a big guy with piercing green eyes, a fighter, offers to take her to where her grandmother is being held captive, in Paris.
In New Beijing Cinder escapes from prison and is now the most wanted person in the world, and the Moon. Evil Queen Levana is threatening an attack on Earth if the cyborg girl is not found and delivered to her as soon as possible. Is Kai’s marriage with the Queen the only way to save humanity? What will happen if he accepts her proposal and Cinder is not found?

“Lunar. Cyborg. Fugitive. Outlaw. Outcast.”

So Cinder escapes, she is wanted, Kai hates her, Levana wants her dead, it seems that learning the biggest secret about her true identity is changing everything. It’s not easy being her right now. Luckily, after a blueprint misunderstanding, she finds Thorne, sorry, Captain Thorne, willing to help her with his stolen ship. Little he knows who he is really helping! I picture him like a modern pirate, a little dirty but not in a smelly kind of way, beautiful messy hair and nice body. Yes, I like him!

In France we meet Scarlet, her grandmother is missing and nobody wants to help finding her. Villagers!! Boo!
I like Scarlet, but not always, sometimes she is a little bit annoying, just like Cinder. Of course this is because they’re young and so many huge things are happening to them. I get it. I love Wolf’s character, even when he was almost killing guys during fights! I think Wolf is put there as the kind of guy who you are scared but at the same time you want to protect. You may be surf size and he is like the Hulk but there’s always going to be a part of you wanting to kick some butts for him, if he needs it or not! The way he talks is really sweet, kind, delicate. Everything you wouldn’t expect in a guy as big as him.

“I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.”

Kai, what are we going to do with you?? Then again, even if I’m angry with him, there wasn’t really any other things to be done!! What is going to happen now?? I like that he doesn’t think Cinder is entirely at fault. He has to give her the benefit of the doubt and guess the reason why the evil queen wants her at all costs. It’s fishy, right? He doesn’t think so. Not very clever of you, Kaito!

“Cinder has a bit of crush in him”, Thorne stage-whispered.
“Don’t we all?” said Iko.”

I was happy with the new characters, the new developments (Iko!!!!) but then Adri and Pearl showed up. I just hate those two. Stepmother and stepsister doing their best at being the worst people on Earth.

I can’t wait to see what they are going to do next!

Do I recommend it? Yes, until now there aren’t books I will not recommend.

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)

Title: Cinder
Author: Marissa Meyer
Why you should read this book: there are androids, cyborgs, a prince, and an evil nemesis from the Moon!

Cinder is an adopter cyborg. She is a mechanic and works like a slave and has to give her stepmother everything she earns. She is self-conscious and doesn’t like telling people she is a cyborg. She doesn’t even know why she is one, she doesn’t remember her past. She only knows her adoptive father died of a plague that is killing thousands of people and now she has to live with a hideous stepmother and two stepsisters. Luckily she has Iko, her android, to keep her company!

When I read the last page of this book I was “whaaaat??” I NEED the rest of the story!! I want to know more about all the characters, especially Cinder!!
She is a teenager being hated and bullied by her guardian and stepsister. I still can’t understand how there can be so much evil inside one person. I was furious, a lot of things were so unfair it hurt! At least Cinder has a cheerful android called Iko by her side. She lightens her mood and gives excellent advise to Cinder when she really needs it.

They all live in New Beijing, a lot of years in the future, more than a 100 years from the end of the 4th World War. New Beijing has an Emperor and a Prince: Crown Prince Kai! Everyone loves the prince, why shouldn’t them? Every girl wants to marry him and become a princess.
I keep giving him different faces, every single one of them is sweet and charming because he is sweet and super handsome!
I can’t wait to read about Kai and Cinder and I really hope they will have a happily ever after love story!

The story, like the title suggested, has a little “Cinderella” feeling, a few references, but it has a lot more mystery, magic and drama. The plague is terrible, all those people dying and no cure to stop it. The setting, with all the details, really transports you inside the story and you find yourself at the market in New Beijing next to Cinder repairing a little girl’s futuristic smartphone.

I’m just happy smartphones aren’t transparent like they always make them in sci-fi movies and tv shows!!

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for a happily ever after ending!!

Do I recommend it? Yes, even if it’s not really Cinderella, the feeling is there and it fits perfectly with the story!
