The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

The Song of Achilles

Title: The Song of Achilles
Author: Madeline Miller
Why you should read this book: Achilles + Patroclus = OTP

We all know about Achilles, his wonderful blonde hair and the War of Troy caused by selfish Elena, right? It’s all in The Iliad by Homer. This is a different version of the exact same story, we can call it, The Iliad 2.0.

The story is told by Patroclus, a young prince in exile who finds himself in Achilles’ realm and palace. The two of them grow closer, they experience a lot of things together and are together for a very long time, until the very end.
Achilles is the best in Greece, the perfect warrior, a war machine, he was born to fight: he is half God.

I don’t want to spoil the book for people who wants to read it so I won’t say more of the plot even if it’s well known. That’s what scared me the most, the fact that I knew what their fates were and nothing could have changed that. It’s like going to a supermarket with no money: you can go, have fun looking for products but then you go away buying nothing because you knew you couldn’t do it without money. It’s a frustrating experience but that doesn’t affect the journey, the feeling of discovering new products, sales, free samples! It’s a weird analogy but it works for how I feel this book was.

Patroclus is shy, weak, almost the total opposite of Achilles. He likes to be by himself, talks when necessary and tries not to meet Achilles’s eyes. Unfortunately he is been noticed and something might be hiding behind Achilles’ charming grin.
We don’t truly know Achilles’ feelings at first because the story is told from Patroclus point of view but the descriptions of his stares, the way he smiles at him can only mean one thing. IT IS LOVE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!

I feel like I can’t continue writing because I have so many weird feelings going on inside of me that I’m afraid I will end up telling everything!
Let me tell you only that, if you love greek mythology, you will love this book. If you love feeling your heart pounding hard in your chest then this is a book I would recommend. The Song of Achilles is the whole package: fight, love, blood, Gods. You will hate, you will love, you will want to punch, you will want to hug.
Give this book a chance, it’s worth your time!

Do I recommend it? Yes, everyone should read it!

I’m doing a challenge with myself. I will start reading 2 books and 2 ebooks. They are different so I will read according to my mood. The books are: City of Glass, Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe, Cinder and Anna & the french kiss. I wonder what book I will finish first!
